THUNDRA is an iOS‑first lightning tracker built with a premium, dark UI. This policy explains what we collect, how we use it, and your choices.
What We Collect
- Location (with your permission): Used to center the map, apply your alert radius, and determine nearby strikes. We do not collect or sell your precise location to third parties.
- Lightning data: The app uses a mock/local lightning feed for the current build. Future versions may use a real feed, but today all strikes are simulated or locally generated.
- App settings: Alert preferences (radius, time window, quiet hours) are stored locally on your device.
- No personal account data: We do not require sign-in and do not collect names, emails, or identifiers.
- No analytics SDKs: We do not embed third-party analytics or advertising SDKs.
How We Use Data
- Show your position on the map (when allowed).
- Compute distance from strikes to decide if an alert should fire.
- Apply your configured alert radius, time window, and quiet hours.
- Improve app reliability (e.g., limit overlays and purge old strikes).
Storage & Retention
- Local only: Strike records and alert settings are stored in a local database on your device.
- Retention: Strikes older than ~30 days are automatically purged to keep storage lean.
- No cloud backup by us: We do not upload your data to our servers. iCloud device backups (if enabled on your device) may include local app data per Apple’s behavior.
Sharing
- We do not sell or share your personal data.
- Map tiles/providers: The app uses free dark tiles (OpenStreetMap/CARTO). Optional Google Maps (if you enable it) may receive standard map/telemetry requests per Google’s terms. We do not transmit your custom data to them.
Notifications
- The app may show local notifications for nearby lightning when you enable alerts. Notifications are generated on-device based on your location and recent strikes. No push servers are involved.
Children
- THUNDRA is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
Your Choices
- Location: You can allow or revoke location access in iOS Settings. If revoked, map centering and distance-based alerts are limited.
- Notifications: You can enable/disable alerts in-app and in iOS Settings.
- Data removal: To remove locally stored strikes/settings, uninstall the app. This deletes the local database.
Future Data Sources
- If we add a real-time lightning provider in the future, we will update this policy to reflect any new data flows or providers. Paid APIs are not used in the current build.
